In a large pot, melt butter. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and broth. In a heavy bottomed pot (or dutch oven), heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
Heat olive oil in a large pot set to medium-high heat. Garnish with croutons, cheese, tomatoes and/or onions. Increase heat to high; bring to a simmer.
